Industry in Uetendorf.

Tibram opened its doors in Uetendorf in 1952. It was a locksmithery that provided everything the village needed.

Tradition and Specialization

On May 16, 1952, Werner Wittwer founded a sole proprietorship on Aarestrasse, in his parents’ home: he repaired bicycles, cars, and farm machinery, and manufactured wrought-iron railings. The business continued to grow and established itself as a mechanical workshop with a locksmithery.

In the 1970s, Tibram began developing and manufacturing its own electromechanical components for the rail industry – return current units. These were the company’s first in-house products. They continue to drive the business to this day and have established its international presence.

In the 1980s, the second generation took over the reins. In 1991, Jost Ltd. of Langnau – founded in 1876 – joined the company, giving rise to the Tibram Group. Space was running short on Aarestrasse, so in 2001 Tibram moved into the industrial building at its current location on Industriestrasse in Uetendorf. In 2010, the current owner took over and expanded the group with the engineering firm opdesign ltd.

Today, Tibram Ltd. brings together under one roof precision CNC manufacturing for complex workpieces – ranging from small 20-mm parts to large 8,000-mm parts – and railway technology, including return current units, axle encoders, and compressed air treatment.

What began as a small village locksmithery has grown into a global leader in railway technology – and a key player in metal processing for Swiss industry.
